Come out and join your community to help plant native trees and shrubs. Planting trees will create wildlife habitat and increase the local tree canopy, which will enhance community resilience to climate change.
What to Expect
· An orientation and tree planting tutorial
· This is a moderately physically demanding project involving walking, lifting, and shoveling and walking on uneven surfaces
· This event will take place rain or shine but will be rescheduled if there is extreme weather
· 3 hours of outdoor activity
Volunteers under 16must be accompanied by an adult.
Remember to bring
· Please dress for the weather! Consider bringing a rain jacket, hat, etc. depending on weather conditions
· Gardening/work gloves (Extra gloves available)
· Extra water and snacks
· Sunscreen, hat, bug repellent
· Participants must wear closed-toed shoes that can get muddy
· Backpack or bag is recommended since we will be doing a short hike to the site
· A friend or family member: it’s more fun together!
Washroom facilities can be accessed at the Wasaga Beach Sports Park (parking location) near the playground.
Be Tick Aware
· Wear light-coloured clothing to make ticks easier to spot.
· Wear long-sleeve shirts, pants, and closed-toe footwear. Tuck your shirt into your pants and tuck your pants into your socks. This can help prevent ticks from crawling onto your skin where they can feed.
· Permethrin-treated clothing may provide protection against ticks and mosquitoes.
